How you as a Grahamstown resident can help

There are many easy things you can do to help these animals, either directly or indirectly, the first and easiest being to support the local SPCA.

Our SPCA does a huge amount of work geared towards helping the strays and animals of Grahamstown but still need all the help they can get, there are various things you can do to help support them.

Firstly- donations. There are numerous things which the SPCA needs and which will take very little effort and time on your part to help with.

Our SPCA needs items such as:
-as always monetary donations are greatly appreciated
-dog and cat food and toys
-blankets
-dog leads and collars
-coloured paint
-fencing, waterproofing...
- any kind of stationary and printing paper
-dog shampoos

-Volunteers! Volunteers are always needed if you do have the time, for administration in the office as well as for spending time with the animals and looking out for any telling signs. Walking the dogs is always great fun and great exercise!
You do have to fill in some forms to become a volunteer, and the SPCA does have the right to reject your application however.

Anything that you can provide for them which will free their money uo to use for the animals will be helpful!

Other ways to help include:

-adopt an SPCA animal!
- offering to adopt an animal durin gthe duration of it's stay at the SPCA if you cannot adopt any of these animals.
-donations towards the spaying and neutering of the strays they pick up- this will make a huge difference in  reducing the number of stray animals in the long run!
-support SPCA fun runs and fundraisers
-put a can of dog food into the SPCA food collection bin at the Pick and Pay. This is a very easy and inexpensive way to help! The collection bin is always there, you don't have to search ot out,. just spend R8 on a tin of animal food next time you're in the shop-you can give as often or as seldom as you like.
-if you see a stray dog please don't just drive past it- see if it has a collar and if it does take it home, or give the owner a call letting them know that you have their animal- if it doesn't have a collar-take it to the SPCA if possible.

There are also various ways you can help these animals all over the world- here are a few websites of you're interested.
